Therapy for Children
Therapy for children
Children experience emotional and mental health challenges just like adults, but they often express these struggles in different ways. If your child is feeling anxious, angry, withdrawn, or overwhelmed, talking to a trained therapist can help.
At PLE Health, we offer professional therapy for children in a safe, supportive environment. Our child therapists are experienced in helping young people understand their emotions, build confidence, and develop healthy coping skills, whether they’re facing a specific issue or just need some extra support.
How do I know if my child needs therapy?
Children don’t always have the words to describe what they’re feeling, but changes in behaviour often tell the story. You might want to consider therapy if your child:
Seems unusually anxious, fearful, or withdrawn
Has frequent emotional outbursts or anger
Is struggling at school (socially or academically)
Shows signs of low confidence or negative self-talk
Has experienced a major life event (e.g. divorce, bereavement, illness)
Finds it hard to manage friendships or routines
Appears to be stuck in worry, sadness, or stress
Trust your instincts, if something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to seek support.

What does therapy for children involve?
Therapy with children is different from therapy with adults. It’s often more creative, playful, and based on helping the child feel safe enough to express themselves in ways that work for them.
At PLE Health, our therapists use a range of age-appropriate approaches, which may include:
Talking therapy
Play-based or art-based techniques
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Mindfulness strategies
Family or parent-involved sessions (where appropriate)
The goal isn’t to “fix” your child, it’s to help them understand and manage what they’re going through in a way that feels supportive and empowering.
How we work
We start with an initial consultation with you (the parent or carer) to understand what’s been going on and what support might help. From there:
Your child is matched with an experienced therapist
Sessions are offered online or in person, depending on what suits your family
Therapy usually takes place weekly or fortnightly
You’ll be kept informed without breaching your child’s confidentiality
We work closely with parents and, when helpful, schools or other professionals involved in your child’s care.
