Neurodiversity assessments

Neurodiversity assessments

Every brain works differently. For some people, these differences are known as neurodiversity, a natural variation in how people think, learn, and experience the world. Understanding those differences through a neurodiversity assessment can be life-changing, offering clarity, recognition, and the right kind of support.

At PLE Health, we provide professional neurodiversity assessments for both children and adults. Whether you’re seeking answers for yourself, your child, or someone you support, our clinicians are here to help.

What is neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is an umbrella term that includes conditions such as:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Dyslexia, dyspraxia, and dyscalculia

  • Tourette’s and other neurological differences

Being neurodiverse isn’t a disorder in itself, it simply means your brain processes information in a different way. Many people view neurodiversity as a strength, but it can also present challenges that benefit from understanding and tailored support.

Why consider a neurodiversity assessment?

You might be thinking about an assessment if you or your child:

  • Struggle with focus, organisation, or time management

  • Find social interaction confusing or exhausting

  • Experience strong sensory sensitivities

  • Have unique learning needs or styles

  • Show a strong preference for routines or specific interests

  • Feel different from peers but unsure why

Getting an assessment provides clarity and can open doors to support in education, work, and healthcare.

What the assessment involves

At PLE Health, our neurodiversity assessments are carried out by HCPC-registered psychologists with experience in neurodevelopmental conditions. The process usually includes:

  • An initial consultation to understand your goals and history

  • Clinical interviews with the individual (and parents, if the client is a child)

  • Questionnaires and standardised tools specific to autism, ADHD, or other traits

  • Observation and discussion to build a complete picture

  • A detailed report with findings, diagnosis (if appropriate), and tailored recommendations

We take care to ensure the process feels respectful, supportive, and focused on strengths as well as challenges.

What happens after the assessment?

After the assessment, you’ll receive:

  • A written report explaining results clearly

  • Practical recommendations for home, school, or work

  • Advice on reasonable adjustments or next steps

  • Signposting to therapy, coaching, or other support if needed

Diagnosis (where appropriate) can help with access to additional resources, such as support at school, workplace accommodations, or healthcare services.
